About the opportunity
We have an exciting and unique opportunity for an Associate Dam Safety Engineer to join Icon Water. This position is responsible for ensuring Icon Water’s listed dams are operated and maintained in accordance with surveillance procedures, ANCOLD guidelines, Dam Safety Code of NSW guidelines. The position has responsibility for the development and implementation of a dam safety program as required under the ACT Dam Safety Code.
This role is not just all engineering, our Dam Safety team play an important role in protecting our community and the environment. You will work closely with various teams across the Infrastructure Services Group and need to build relationships with our external stakeholders as you navigate a complex regulatory landscape, address technical challenges and contribute to the resilience of our water infrastructure.

About your new role
Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Oversee the regulatory compliance, upgrades and overall asset management of our listed and registered dams.
- Develop and implement a dam safety management program, forward plan and budget.
- Represent Icon Water needs to external stakeholders (i.e. Utilities Technical Regulator, Dam Safety NSW, SES etc) on technical matters of the relevant domain.
- Monitor the performance, behaviour and condition of the dams in accordance with relevant guidelines, maintenance requirements and current engineering standards
- Initiate projects and maintenance work to address engineering issues, maintain dam safety, serviceability, condition and WHS improvement where appropriate,
- Provide technical user requirements specifications for new projects and technical governance for allocated projects.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship for engineers, technical officers and trades inside and outside of engineering Services.
Our ideal candidate will possess:
- Degree qualified in Civil engineering, with ACT registration or ability to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the ACT
- Be a competent dam safety engineer with at least 8 years’ experience with demonstrated knowledge and skills in dam safety management
- Ability to mount a technical argument using a variety of communication formats in a convincing manner appropriate to the audience,
- Ability to influence and negotiate outcomes through professional and productive engagement with senior executives and managers, peers, staff at all levels, customers and suppliers.
