About the role 

We have an exciting and unique opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join Icon Water. 

This role has primary responsibility for undertaking a wide range of duties related repairs, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment at Water and Sewage Networks operated by Icon Water in the ACT and surrounding region.

About your new role

Icon Water has multiple opportunities for capable and hardworking individuals to join as our Mechanical Fitter. If you are keen to kick-start your career in the water and sewerage industry, then this is the right opportunity for you!

As a member of our collaborative team, you will undertake preventative and reactive maintenance task on our mechanical equipment.

This is a competency-based role for pay point progression to the highest classification pay point of $120,172.

Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and co-ordinate task completion using available resources and working within operational & procedural constraints and systems availability.
  • Complete required documentation and reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to identify and recommend improvements to maintenance efficiency.
  • Participate in an emergency on-call roster as required to provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week breakdown and maintenance service. Usually rostered on call 1 week in 10.
  • Ability to identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and perform work in accordance with implemented safe work practices and procedures.

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Recognised Tradesman’s Certificate in Mechanical Fitting/Turning.
  • Demonstrated ability, skills, and experience to perform maintenance duties on various types of pumps, valves, gearboxes, and other process industry equipment.
  • Experience in machining and welding techniques.
  • ACT Class C Drivers Licence or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience working under and in accordance with a comprehensive safety system.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in appropriate training programs and emergency on-call rosters.
  • Ability to undertake physically demanding work including working in confined spaces.  A pre-employment medical will be completed as part of the recruitment process.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and cooperate with other trades, individuals, and work groups.
  • Ability to work under limited direction and supervision both as an individual and as a member of a small, self-directed work group.

  11. Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention
